Could You Tell Me Where the Restroom is?

Question:
How much water should I be drinking every day?

Answer: The general rule of thumb is that everyone should consume at least 8 - 12 glasses of water per day.  I drink water all day long.  During workouts, I may consume as many as three bottles. I have water with me when I train clients, whether we are in the gym, in their homes or in my home.  I keep water with me when I am doing my cardio.  I have water sitting nearby when I am just doing everyday activities in my house or out running errands.  Do I go to the bathroom a lot during the day?  You betcha!   Could I write a map book on public restrooms?  You betcha!  But that is just a tradeoff for all the benefits.  If you are only going to the bathroom 2 or 3 times a day, then you need to add to your water consumption.

I just don’t feel good when I don’t drink enough water.  There are times when I cut down on water consumption.  When traveling by air.  I don’t like to crawl over people to use that teeny weeny little hole in the wall they call a bathroom.  But I begin drinking again as soon as I step foot on a solid surface.  When I used to rock climb every weekend, I wouldn’t drink as much water because it was so much trouble to go to the bathroom.  Take off the climbing shoes, take off the harness, unhook the ropes, put on the hiking boots, grab the shovel and organic tissue, trek down the hill to find a private grove of trees or large rock, climb back up the hill, take off the hiking boots.......well, you get the picture.  The problem was that I always cramped the next day because I became dehydrated.  But I was aware that it was going to happen and always started drinking water as soon as I came off the mountain.  No danger.....just discomfort.

If you are trying to lose weight, the fat has to be eliminated from your body as it breaks up.  Water helps that elimination process.  The more water you drink, the more fat can be eliminated.  Water will also help to curb your hunger.  It gives you a full feeling so that you do not eat as much.

I do drink tap water sometimes in the gym because when my bottle gets empty, I refill it at the fountain.  Most of the time I drink bottled water but I do have a water purifier on my refrigerator at home.  It is totally your choice what water you drink.  If you don’t like the taste of water.....get over it!   Add some lemon or lime.  Hold your nose.  Whatever it takes!  But get on that water bandwagon.
