Are the dreary days of winter getting you down? Is the temptation of lazily lounging in a big comfy sweater more than you can deny. Well there is some incentive to get moving. Scientific studies prove, in animals at least, that exercise increases certain mood elevating chemicals in your brain. Now I am no scientist and I can’t prove it. However, a dreary day is much easier to handle after an active morning. So think about getting up a little early and saying hello to a nice pair of walking shoes. It might just be the boost you need.

Land of Fit Living
It seems that a lot of the people who come to me for help or advice are middle-aged. When I reached middle age, I began to understand why. I believe that somewhere around the age of 40, give or take a few years, each of us, consciously or unconsciously, make up our minds how we are going to live the rest of our lives. We are either going to participate or we are going to sit in the proverbial rocker and watch it pass us by. Rest of the Story

Question: I work in a dentist’s office. We have 2 hours for lunch everyday and the staff likes to go to the Mexican food restaurant or the Chinese food restaurant nearby so that we can have a lazy lunch and take our time. I really, really want to lose weight but I enjoy the company of my office companions. Not to mention the margaritas. I don’t want to look like a party pooper. But, too many more weeks of this and I will have to go up another size instead of down. Help! Answer

We have all seen the celebrities, Katie Holmes, Oprah, and now Jennifer Lopez, on the cover of our favorite news websites completing these seemingly impossible marathons. I don’t want to seem unsupportive or less than ecstatic. They are after all promoting fitness. This sort of celebrity achievement story might just promote slightly unrealistic goals for most everyday hyper busy working professionals. How many of us have chefs, life coaches, and 24 hour nannies, not to mention stylist? If we had millions to throw at “help” we could run marathons in multi thousand dollar track suits as well. In the real world two hours a day to train is a bit much. However all is not lost. Read More
